Disney's "Frozen II" tops Chinese mainland box office

BEIJING, Nov. 23 (Xinhua) -- "Frozen II," a sequel to the 2013 Disney animated blockbuster "Frozen," topped the Chinese mainland box office on its opening day Friday, according to the China Movie Data Information Network Saturday.

The film grossed more than 72.52 million yuan (10.31 million U.S. dollars) of box office revenue, accounting for over 57 percent of the daily total.

The animated musical fantasy film continues the story of Elsa, a queen with icy powers, and her warmhearted sister Anna. In the new film, Anna and Elsa travel to an ancient enchanted forest to find the origin of Elsa's powers in order to save their kingdom.

It was followed by domestic crime film "The Guilty Ones," which generated 11.99 million yuan on its first day of screening Friday. The film tells the story of a terminally ill mother spending ten years hunting for the murderer of her daughter.

Coming in third was Chinese romantic drama "Somewhere Winter," which raked in about 9.15 million yuan.
