BEIJING, Nov. 23 (Xinhua) -- About 78 percent of Chinese parents said they had posted pictures or videos of their kids on social media, according to a recent survey by China Youth Daily.
Nearly 40 percent of the respondents said they post about their children once or several times a week, while 5.1 percent post once or several times every day, according to the survey of 2,000 parents.
Xie Yang (not her real name), a mother of a three-year-old girl from Suzhou in east China's Jiangsu Province, said she loved posts about children before her pregnancy, so when she had her own daughter, she wanted to record her child's growth on social media as well.
About 73.5 percent of the respondents agreed that parents should get their children's consent before posting their pictures online, said the survey.
"Sometimes, kids feel embarrassed if their parents post too often on social media," said Yang Guo (not her real name), a mother of an eight-year-old boy from Harbin, the capital city of northeast China's Heilongjiang Province.
"Their self-consciousness grows as they get older," said Yang.
Some 71.2 percent have privacy concerns about online posts of children, according to the survey.
About 58.6 percent of parents surveyed worry about revealing their children's personal whereabouts, and 49 percent think their children's image rights may be infringed.
And 38.7 percent think posting too many pictures of their children will not help them have a strong awareness of protecting personal information.
