CANBERRA, Nov. 25 (Xinhua) -- The Australian government has re-established a narrow lead over the Opposition in latest opinion poll.

According to the latest Newspoll published by The Australian on Monday, the governing Liberal-National party (LNP) coalition leads the Australian Labor Party (ALP) 51-49 on a two-party preferred basis only two weeks after the parties were locked at 50-50.

The poll of 1519 voters found that a majority were dissatisfied with the performance of Prime Minister Scott Morrison and Labor leader Anthony Albanese.

Albanese had a net satisfaction rating of negative seven points, two better than Morrison's negative nine.

However, the incumbent remained Australia's preferred PM with Morrison holding an 11 point lead over Albanese in that category.

It was taken during a week when the political debate was focused on Australia's bushfire strategy and the nation's stagnating economy.

Morrison announced that his government would fast-track 3.8 billion Australian dollars in infrastructure funding to boost productivity growth while Albanese distanced himself from the "tax-and-spend" agenda championed by his predecessor, Bill Shorten.

The latest poll used an improved methodology after an investigation into why all of Australia's major polls failed to accurately predict the general election on May 18.

Campbell White, head of public affairs and polling for YouGov Asia-Pacific, the company which conducts Newspoll, said that polling has become "harder and harder to conduct and interpret" in recent years.

"The 2019 election was a disappointment for the polling industry. Without exception, every Australian poll got the outcome wrong," he said.
