BEIRUT, Nov. 25 (Xinhua) -- A senior UK official urged Lebanese parties on Monday to accelerate the formation of a government that would meet people's demands, LBCI local TV channel reported.

Richard Moore, director general for Political Affairs at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, said he is advising officials to form a government in a bid to find a solution to the current crisis and his call for a government is not meant to intervene in Lebanon's affairs.

Moore's remarks came during his meeting with Lebanon's President Michel Aoun at Baabda Palace in Beirut.

Moore also emphasized his country's continuous support for the Lebanese army.

Meanwhile, a statement issued by the UK embassy in Beirut quoted Moore as saying that the UK has been following up closely on developments in Lebanon while it vows to continue supporting Lebanon's security, stability, prosperity and sovereignty.

Lebanon has been without a government since Oct. 29 after nationwide demonstrations led to the resignation of Prime Minister Saad Hariri's government.

The president has so far failed in holding parliamentary consultations to name a prime minister tasked with the formation of a new government.

Protesters vowed not to leave the streets before they guarantee that officials meet their demands which include the formation of a credible government capable of implementing serious economic reforms and restoring stolen public funds.
