NILI, Afghanistan, Nov. 28 (Xinhua) -- At least 11 fighters including eight militants have been confirmed dead as clash broke out in Nawamish district of Afghanistan's central Daikundi province on Thursday, spokesperson for the provincial government Sakina Ehsani said.

The clash erupted in the wee hours of Thursday when Taliban insurgents attacked security checkpoints in Sarma Sang and Karizak areas of the restive district and lasted for three hours. Eight armed militants and three security personnel had been killed, the official said.

Four more security personnel sustained wounds, the official said without providing details if the killed security personnel were police or army.

Taliban militants have not commented on the report.

The central Daikundi province, with Nili as its capital 290 km west of Kabul, has been regarded as a peaceful province. However, the Taliban militants who are active in the neighboring Uruzgan province occasionally launch attacks on security forces in Daikundi.
