UNITED NATIONS, Nov. 29 (Xinhua) -- Two UN agencies and humanitarian partners have joined with Australia and New Zealand to combat a measles outbreak in the South Pacific, said the UN secretary-general's press office on Friday.
Nearly 300,000 vaccines and medical supplies had been delivered by Thursday to reach populations most at risk in Samoa, Fiji, Tonga, Vanuatu, Cook Islands, Nauru, Niue, Tokelau, and Tuvalu, said the press office.
The UN Children's Fund (UNICEF) is leading the effort together with the World Health Organization and other partners. UNICEF's response is supported by the ministries of foreign affairs and trade of Australia and New Zealand, it said.
