XIAMEN, Dec. 1 (Xinhua) -- Major members of a drug trafficking gang have been prosecuted in the east China city of Xiamen for smuggling ketamine, commonly known as "K powder," between Taiwan and Fujian Province, which face each other across the Taiwan Strait.

The Xiamen Public Security Bureau arrested 14 drug suspects, including five from Taiwan, and intercepted 527.7 kg of ketamine valued at over 44.72 million yuan (6.36 million U.S. dollars).

The bureau's narcotics control officers discovered the gang members' drug trafficking in the cities of Longyan and Xiamen in Fujian.

Police said that the drug traffickers from Taiwan raised cash through underground banks to buy large quantities of "K powder" produced in Fujian, and smuggled it back to Taiwan by sea.

Police said all links of the gang's drug production and transportation have been busted.
