Macao hotel guests number up by 2.3 pct in October

MACAO, Dec. 2 (Xinhua) -- A total of 1,177,000 guests checked into Macao's hotels and guesthouses in October 2019, up by 2.3 percent year-on-year, the special administrative region (SAR)'s statistics department said here Monday.

The latest report from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) showed that the guests coming from South Korea (41,000), Hong Kong SAR (144,000) and China's Taiwan region (39,000) grew by 16.6 percent, 25.6 percent and 11.7 percent respectively, while those from the Chinese mainland (815,000) stayed almost unchanged.

The average occupancy rate of guest rooms went down by 1.7 percentage points year-on-year to 88.2 percent. The rates of five-star hotels (89.5 percent) and four-star hotels (88.4 percent) fell by 1.5 percentage points and 2.4 percentage points respectively.

The average length of stay of guests held steady year-on-year at 1.5 nights, the DSEC report added.

In the first ten months of 2019, guests of hotels and guesthouses totaled 11.72 million, up by 1.7 percent year-on-year.

The average occupancy rate of guest rooms in the first ten months of 2019 edged up by 0.2 percentage points to 90.6 percent. The average length of stay of guests remained stable at 1.5 nights.

Visitors accounted for 71.2 percent of the total overnight guests in the first ten months, down by 0.6 percentage points year-on-year.
