BEIJING, Dec. 3 (Xinhua) -- Chinese stocks closed higher on Tuesday with automakers and home appliance manufacturers leading the gain.
The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index went up 0.31 percent to close at 2,884.7 points while the Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.55 percent higher at 9,657.65 points.
The combined turnover of stocks covered by the two indices stood at 347 billion yuan (about 49.4 billion U.S. dollars), expanding from 342.5 billion yuan in the previous trading day.
Winners outnumbered losers by 958 to 424 on the Shanghai bourse and by 1,470 to 595 on the Shenzhen bourse.
Manufacturers of electronic parts, home appliances, and automobiles were among the biggest winners, with shares of Gree Electric Appliances surging 5.35 percent.
The ChiNext Index, China's NASDAQ-style board of growth enterprises, gained 0.35 percent to close at 1,675.39 points Tuesday.
