TOKYO, Dec. 5 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks closed higher Thursday following a solid lead from Wall Street overnight on rekindled hopes for an interim trade deal between two major economies to be reached.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average added 164.86 points, or 0.71 percent, from Wednesday to close the day at 23,300.09.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, gained 8.14 points, or 0.48 percent, to finish at 1,711.41.
Iron and steel, marine transportation and metal product-oriented issues comprised those that gained the most by the close of play.
