LUSAKA, Dec. 6 (Xinhua) -- Zambian President Edgar Lungu on Thursday said he will not allow the continued construction of sub-standard buildings in the country.

The Zambian leader said it was disturbing to realize that after so much money had been spent on erecting a building it starts collapsing a few months later.

While acknowledging that the country has witnessed fantastic buildings being erected, the quality of some of the structures leaves much to be desired.

"All those involved in construction should strictly adhere to their professional ethics," he said during the launch of an ultra-modern building of the PTA Reinsurance Company, a regional company of the Common Market or Eastern and Southern Africa.

The Zambian leader urged the Engineering Institute of Zambia, an association of engineers and the National Construction Council, to take leading roles in ensuring that buildings constructed in the country did not just the test of time but were also not a danger to the public.
