KHARTOUM, Dec. 11 (Xinhua) -- Sudan's Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok on Wednesday urged the international community to support Sudan to address its urgent needs during the transitional period.

Hamdok was addressing the opening session of "Friends of Sudan Meeting," which kicked off in the Sudanese capital Khartoum on Wednesday.

The one-day meeting was attended by representatives of 24 countries, including the United States, Britain, Germany, France and Norway as well as Arab countries.

"We expect our partners to support the Sudanese economy through investment and economic partnerships and work together in addressing the economic reform program and the immediate and long-term requirements of putting this reform on the right track," said Hamdok.

He added that peace represents a top priority for the transitional government, stressing that the government is working seriously to achieve it with the armed groups.

Speaking at the meeting, Norwegian State Secretary Marianne Hagen called on all the parties to the Sudanese peace process to engage constructively in the ongoing peace talks held in South Sudan.

Hagen said that, as a new round of peace talks started in Juba on Tuesday, she hoped that all the stakeholders would join these talks and show renewed spirit of cooperation, pragmatism and realism.

The Friends of Sudan, established in 2018, is comprised of a number of countries and international organizations that support Sudan.

An international conference is scheduled to be held by mid-2020 to raise funds to support Sudan.
