Roundup: China's Li sweeps women's +87kg division at IWF World Cup

TIANJIN, Dec. 12(Xinhua) -- Chinese weightlifter Li Wenwen swept the women's +87 category by winning all three gold medals at the 2019 Shengxin IWF World Cup here on Thursday.

Li won the gold medal of snatch on 138kg at the second attempt, although she failed at trying to lift 142kg at her third attempt. Kim Kuk Hyang of DPR Korea took the silver with 120kg while Britain's Emily Campbell took the bronze in snatch on 119kg.

In clean and jerk, Li took the gold medal again by making a good lift of 165kg at her first attempt. Subsequently, both of her second and third attempts were successful and her score of the clean and jerk was set at 177 kg. Son Younghee of South Korea finished second with 155kg. Kim won the bronze of clean and jerk on 155kg.

Li, the 19-year-old world record holder, won the gold medal of total on 315kg with a sweeping advantage. The silver went to Kim on 275kg while Son took the bronze on 273kg.

"Although I won easily today, my form was not very good. I have to keep training," Li said.

Thursday's competition also featured the women's 87kg category. China's Wang Zhouyu won all the three gold medals. She made all three good lifts in snatch and won the gold on 126kg. She also won the gold medal in clean and jerk after hoisting 155kg above her head to set the score at 281kg in total.

Team China won another gold medal on Thursday as Yang Zhe won the title of the snatch and total with 192kg and 409kg in men's 109kg division while Zhang Wangli won all the three silvers in women's 76kg division.
