COPENHAGEN, Dec. 12 (Xinhua) -- Two women and six men suspected of making bombs and trying to buy weapons appeared on Thursday in closed sessions at two constitutional hearings here in the capital of Denmark, charged with attempted terrorism.

Three of the defendants were charged with trying to manufacture one or more bombs with the explosive TATP (triacetone triperoxide).

In another courtroom, five defendants were charged with trying to finance and obtain guns, mufflers, and ammunition. The five pleaded not guilty.

The charge made by the Prosecutor's Office in the Copenhagen City Court against all the defendants stated that "through conversations and meetings, the defendants were instructed in the manufacture of explosives and in acquiring the components for the manufacture of the explosive TATP and other explosives and made preparations for the production of one or more."

Twenty people were arrested in connection with a bid to acquire explosives and firearms during a planned raid of seven of the 12 police districts at 20 private addresses throughout the country, the Danish security service PET said during a press conference on Wednesday.
