Employment in Portuguese cultural, creative sector up 12.2 pct in 2018

LISBON, Dec. 16 (Xinhua) -- Portugal's cultural and creative sector employed around 131,400 people in 2018, up by 12.2 percent from 2017, Portugal's National Institute of Statistics (INE) said on Monday.

The population employed in this sector in 2018 represented 2.7 percent of the total in Portugal, according to the official statistics agency.

According to the INE, there were more men than women in the cultural and creative sector in 2018.

"Employment in cultural and creative activities was characterized by being more educated than the total employment of the economy," said the INE.

There were 61,916 cultural companies in Portugal in 2017, accounting for 5 percent of the total companies in the country, up by 5.7 percent from 2016.
