Over 600,000 Bangladeshis find overseas jobs

DHAKA, Dec. 17 (Xinhua) -- In the first 11 months of 2019, more than 600,000 Bangladeshi job aspirants have found overseas employment, down 11.81 percent from the same period last year, an official said Tuesday.

The official of the Bureau of Manpower Employment and Training (BMET) who declined to be named told Xinhua "604,060 people found jobs abroad in January-November this year, down from 684,962 during the same period in 2018."

He said 58,607 people found overseas jobs in November this year, down 16.72 percent compared with the same month a year ago.

Of the total overseas employment in the 11 months of 2019, the BMET official said more than two-thirds of Bangladeshi workers secured jobs in the Middle East countries.

According to the official, 40,660 found jobs in Saudi Arabia, 5,408 in Oman and 1,811 in Qatar, 1,670 in Jordan and 1,124 in Kuwait. Singapore recruited 4,060 people from Bangladesh, he added.

The overseas jobs for Bangladeshis in 2018 stood at 734,181.
