DHAKA, Dec. 18 (Xinhua) -- The Detective Branch of Bangladesh Police have arrested two people in connection with the murder of a Chinese businessman in capital Dhaka's upmarket Banani.

The two security guards, 26-year-old Abdur Rauf and 27-year-old Enamul Haque, were arrested in Dhaka's Banani area on Tuesday night, Additional Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) M Abdul Baten told journalists at a press briefing in Dhaka Wednesday.

"The culprits murdered Gaoxian Hui simply to embezzle his money," he said, adding that Hui was strangled to death inside his own flat.

Making the excuse of drinking water, the two security guards entered his flat and killed him.

Baten said they recovered a gamcha (a traditional thin, coarse cotton towel), bucket and pieces of wood used during the murder and burial of the body.

They embezzled at least 343,000 taka (about 4,037 U.S. dollars) and sent the same to different persons through mobile financial services.

The police have recovered 121,500 taka (about 1430 dollars) and said the security guards considered the Chinese guy a big business person. They thought they could change their fates by killing him and snatching his money.

The two arrestees were paraded before the media during the press briefing of DMP in Dhaka Wednesday where the victim's friends and relatives including his wife and children were present.

The body of the 47-year-old Chinese businessman was found buried in the garden of his apartment complex on Dec. 11.

He lived with his family on the fifth floor of the 10-storey house in Banani for the last one year, but his family members had gone back to China in November.

Farida Akhter, a friend of Hui, had earlier lodged a case against unidentified assailants over his murder with Banani police station on Dec. 11.

Hui was involved in stone business and invested in different projects, including Bangladesh's largest Padma Bridge project. (1 U.S. dollar equals to 86 taka)
