DAR ES SALAAM, Dec. 30 (Xinhua)-- At least six people were killed and 12 others were injured on Sunday night after a mini-bus collided head on with a lorry on the outskirts of the capital Dodoma, police said on Monday.
Gilles Muroto, Dodoma regional police commander, said the accident occurred after the driver of the lorry tried to avoid a pothole and collided with the mini-bus.
Muroto said two of the injured persons were in critical condition as doctors at the Dodoma regional hospital's intensive care unit were working round the clock to save their lives.
The police official said the driver of the lorry tried to escape after the accident but police managed to arrest him.
Stanley Mahundo, a senior nursing officer with the Dodoma regional hospital, said five of the deceased had been identified by relatives.
