COPENHAGEN, Jan. 1 (Xinhua) -- Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen used the bulk of her first New Year's speech on Wednesday evening to focus the attention on child abuse.

Frederiksen said she wanted to see vulnerable and abused children empowered to take coercive measures against their abusive parents.

"Today, some parents get too many chances. The most important thing for a small child is to grow up with security, love, and stability. Therefore, more vulnerable children should be adopted. So they get a real fresh start in their lives," said Frederiksen.

She had announced during last summer's election that she would be the children's prime minister.

Meantime, Frederiksen talked about the nation's most ambitious climate law and called for "more untouched forest, more renewable energy, more research funding for future solutions, and a strengthened green effort in the world."

The prime minister said: "Our greenhouse gas emissions have to go down and our nature needs to be better. It requires something from all of us. We are seeing major changes in the way we live and produce."
