JERUSALEM, Jan. 8 (Xinhua) -- Israel has created a cyber-control center against cyber threats pointed at telecommunications providers, the Israel National Cyber Directorate (INCD) and Ministry of Communications said Wednesday.
The new center, which will begin operation in about a month, is part of the INCD's Computer Emergency Response Center (CERT), located in an hi-tech park at the southern city of Beer Sheva.
The new center is intended to serve mobile, internet and communications-infrastructure providers, and will be staffed 24 hours by analysts and cyber experts.
As part of its duties, the new center will formulate a current snapshot, coordinate reports, assist primary care providers in addressing and treating them, share dedicated information and alerts, and work to raise protection level.
Israeli Minister of Communications, David Amsalem said "We are preparing for every scenario and bringing Israel to maximum readiness for many cyber threats we are facing. I am always proud to see how little Israel is a world power in the field of cyber."
Yigal Unna, director general of the INCD, added "Cyber threats and telecommunication challenges are constantly on the rise. The purpose of the center is to provide a better defensive shell that will improve the scope and speed of response to cyber events at both telecommunications and national levels."
The new center is being added to the four control centers that already operate under CERT center, in the areas of finance, energy, internal security and government, alongside an operational center for public and economic reporting.
The INCD and the relevant government ministries are planning to establish additional control centers, including in the fields of transport and environmental protection.
