GUANGZHOU, Jan. 11 (Xinhua) -- The CBA rookie stars taught a lesson for the college stars by winning 83-75 in 2019-2020 season CBA All-Star Rookie Challenge as Jiang Weize of Jilin won the trophy of the Most Valuable Player (MVP).

The first layup from the CBA rookie stars was blocked before Wang Lanqin of Tsinghua University scored the first two points for the college stars. Li Weihao had a two-hand slam-dunk to impress the audiences in the stadium including the chairman of the CBA Yao Ming.

Lagging behind 17-25 in the first quarter, the rookies of the CBA league made a strong comeback by storming 28-10 in the second quarter.

Zhang Ning of Peking University hit a three-pointer to cut the deficit to 60-58 in the last minute of the third quarter. Another three-pointer from Zhang's schoolmate Zhu Mingzhen helped the college stars take the lead again in the last period. But the professionals soon took control and won the game 83-75.

Contributing 14 points for the winner, Jiang Weize was named the MVP of the game. Zhao Baiqing from Peking University scored game-high 17 points.

A 3x3 Rookie Challenge was played also between the CBA rookies stars and college stars before the 5x5 game. The college team demonstrated their will and capability by winning the game 21-18 by sudden death with a rainbow layup from Jia Mingru.

All top seeds were eliminated from the Technics Challenge as Wang Lanqin, Chen Peidong, Hu Jinqiu, and Wang Junjie become the finalists.

Chen Linjian, Jiang Weize and Kyranbek Makan qualified for the Three-Point Shooting Contest final.

Yi Jinhong jumped over Zhao Rui in his Dunk Contest preliminary performance to head into Sunday night's final with Kay Felder and Tang Haobo.
