Colombia defender Bocanegra joins Paraguay's Libertad

MEDELLIN, Jan. 11 (Xinhua) -- Colombia international defender Daniel Bocanegra has joined Paraguay's Libertad after parting ways with Atletico Nacional, the Colombian top flight club said on Saturday.

The 32-year-old had been one of the longest-serving players in Nacional's squad, having represented the club more than 240 times since 2013.

"The player and his agent told [us] about the significant offer made by Club Libertad of Paraguay and [Bocanegra's] desire to play in a foreign country for the first time. It's an unprecedented opportunity for his future and that of his family."

It added that Nacional came to an amicable agreement with Bocanegra to terminate his contract on Friday, without providing details.

Bocanegra, who has been capped four times for Colombia's national team, is expected to debut for his new club in the their first division season opener against 12 de Octubre on January 19.
