BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, Jan. 12 (Xinhua) -- The 2020 Brunei basketball calendar tipped off with the Brunei Basketball Association (BBA) Youth Cup on Sunday afternoon.
A total of six under-21 teams will vie for top honors in the one-week competition held in Brunei's capital Bandar Seri Begawan.
In line with the BBA's focus on youth development, each team is required to have three under-18 players on the roster with at least one under-18 player to be on the court at all times.
"As we move into a new year and new decade, we want to refresh and reinforce our focus on developing the future potential of Brunei basketball," local media reported, quoting BBA's Co-Chairman of the Youth Cup Organizing Committee Darren Yap.
"This is why our first tournament in 2020 is tailored so that our young players have the opportunity to play competitive basketball under the guidance of more experienced players and coaches," he added.
