ADDIS ABABA, Jan. 16 (Xinhua) -- The upcoming Africa Regional Forum on Sustainable Development (ARFSD-2020) is expected to reaffirm Africa's common aspiration in realizing a prosperous Africa through the successful implementation of global and continental flagship development aspirations, the organizers announced on Thursday.
"All the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) will be under the spotlight at the sixth session of the Africa Regional Forum on Sustainable Development" that will be held under the theme "2020-2030: A Decade to Deliver a Transformed and Prosperous Africa through the 2030 Agenda and Agenda 2063" from February 24 to 27 in Zimbabwe, the UN Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) announced on Thursday.
According to the ECA, this year's edition of the Africa Regional Forum on Sustainable Development, among other things, aimed to accelerate the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the AU's 50-year continental development Agenda 2063.
"Messages from the Forum will serve as Africa's collective regional input to the High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development convened annually under the auspices of the Economic and Social Council," an ECA statement read.
ARFSD, which is an intergovernmental platform jointly convened by the ECA in collaboration with the African Union (AU) Commission, the African Development Bank (AfDB) and the UN system, envisaged to review progress, share experiences and lessons learned, and build consensus regarding the implementation of SDGs in Africa, it was noted.
In September, Zimbabwe had confirmed that it will host the 6th Africa Regional Forum on Sustainable Development (ARFSD) which will be held in the resort town of Victoria Falls, slated from Feb. 24 to 27 this year.
The sixth session of ARFSD-2020 is mainly expected to conduct a regional follow-up and review of the progress made in the implementation of the SDGs, facilitate peer learning and advance transformative solutions and actions that would accelerate the realization of the SDGs and Africa's Agenda 2063.
