Two Chinese shuttlers enter women's singles semifinals of Indonesia Masters

JAKARTA, Jan. 17 (Xinhua) -- Both He Bingjiao and Wang Zhiyi of China secured their women's singles semifinal spots on Friday for the 2020 Indonesia Masters badminton tournament.

He downed United States shuttler Zhang Beiwen 21-16, 22-20 in 42 minutes, while Wang beat Japan's Takahashi Sayaka 21-19, 21-11 in 39 minutes.

In the semifinals slated on Saturday, the 22-year-old He will vie against Spain's Carolina Marin after the 26-year-old world No. 1 defeated South Korean An Se-young.

Meanwhile, Wang, just 19 years old, will play Thailand's Intanon Ratchanok, 24, who beat Canada's Li Michelle to reach the semis.

The Indonesia Masters 2020 is taking place from January 14 to 19 at the Istora Senayan sports stadium in the country's capital city of Jakarta.

The total prize money for the event is 400,000 U.S. dollars, which is up about 14 percent from that of the same event in 2019.
