GABORONE, Jan. 17 (Xinhua) -- Botswana has allayed media reports of an anthrax outbreak in both wild and domestic animals.
The Minister of Agricultural Development and Food Security Edwin Dikoloti on Friday dismissed the reports as "misleading."
"Contrary to circulating media reports, our surveillance systems have not confirmed any anthrax cases in the domestic animal population for many years," said Dikoloti, adding that the situation of anthrax in wildlife population is not "entirely understood."
"We would like to give assurance that it (anthrax in wildlife population) remains stable and under constant monitoring by the Department of Veterinary Services," said Dikoloti.
He said their surveillance is to give assurance and certify conditions of trade, concerning anthrax of animals and products from Botswana.
