LES ROUSSES, France, Jan. 19 (Xinhua) -- Russia's Anna Shpyneva overshadowed local favorite Josephine Pagnier to bag the women's individual ski jumping gold medal at the 3rd Winter Youth Olympic Games here on Sunday.

Shpyneva had won three gold medals at the Nordic Junior World Ski Championships last year in Lahti, Finland.

The Russian teenager showed 85 meters and 84 meters respectively to collect a match-best 229.6 points.

Pagnier, who grew up not far from the competition venue of Les Tuffes Nordic Center, led all jumpers with 124.2 points after the first round, but failed to maintain her top position with 98.6 points in the second jump.

The bronze medal went to Stepanka Ptackova of the Czech Republic, who gained a total of 214.6 points over two jumps.

Windy condition somewhat affected the contention as several ski jumpers had to wait for the green light before doing their jumps.

Chinese ski jumping hope Zhou Fangyu jumped 81 meters in the second round, but many points were subtracted due to her bad landing. She finished 10th with 183.8 points.

"I had hoped to make into top 10. I did pretty well today, but failed to control my landing in the second jump," Zhou said, adding that she felt huge influence by the wind.
