LUSAKA, Jan. 20 (Xinhua) -- Zambian President Edgar Lungu on Monday said that his government will continue to pursue policy and legal reforms aimed at ensuring the sustained growth of the micro, small and medium enterprises.

The Zambian leader said studies have shown that the sector has the capacity to contribute to the growth of the country's economy and creation of jobs.

"With regard to job creation, I am fully aware that in order to unleash the full potential of micro and small to medium enterprises to create jobs and contribute significantly to economic growth, there should be an enabling policy and legal framework to promote the sector," he said in a post on his Facebook page.

The government, he said, has continued to implement key reforms dealing with business licensing and regulation, trade logistics and ease of doing business in order to spur the growth of small businesses.

According to him, creation of jobs should not be left to the government alone as the private sector, including small and medium enterprises, also have a key role to play.

The government, he said, has also continued to accelerate the promotion of skills development, strengthen value chain linkages, and provide business development services to the small and medium enterprises.
