KAMPALA, Jan. 21 (Xinhua) -- The Ugandan government has approved additional emergency funds for disaster victims in the different parts of the country.
Ofwono Opondo, government spokesman said on Tuesday that Cabinet on Monday approved 32 billion shillings (8.8 million U.S. dollars) for emergency relief supplies to the victims of floods, landslides, windstorms, hailstorms and lightening.
The funding comes after government early last month released 20 billion shillings for emergency response after deadly landslides and floods hit parts of the country.
Government figures then showed that thousands of people had been affected especially in the eastern part of the country.
