WELLINGTON, Jan. 22 (Xinhua) -- Chinese tourists injured in a severe accident on Tuesday in South Island have received timely treatment and are now out of life-threatening danger, said Chinese Consulate General in Christchurch on Wednesday.
Chinese Consul General in Christchurch Wang Zhijian confirmed that 21 Chinese tourists were on the bus that rolled on Glenorchy-Queenstown road on Tuesday. The accident caused multiple injuries with two people serious injured. The serious injured were airlifted to Christchurch hospital and Dunedin Hospital quickly after the crash. Those minor injured were accommodated locally with first aid treatments. Most of the Chinese tourists in the tour group will travel back to China as planned on Thursday.
According to New Zealand Police, 23 People were on board the bus that rolled. A bus driver and a tour guide were alongside the 21-people tour group in the bus when the accident happened, when there was no other car involved.
Witness said the crash site was a sharp turn where car accidents happened frequently.
Meanwhile, the Chinese Embassy in New Zealand on Wednesday warned Chinese citizens travelling in New Zealand to raise safety awareness and be cautious so as to avoid road accidents.
Glenorchy, a small scenic town and one of the most popular tourist destinations in New Zealand, is located 45 km from Queenstown in South Island, New Zealand. The road between Glenorchy and Queenstown is known to be full of sharp turns.
