GABORONE, Jan. 21 (Xinhua) -- Unemployment among young people has increased in the third quarter of 2019 compared to 2015/16, national data authority Statistics Botswana (SB) said Tuesday.
The youth unemployment rate rose by 1.6 percentage point from 25.1 percent in 2015/16 to 26.7 percent in the third quarter of 2019, according to a quarterly survey of the SB, whose primary mandate is to provide labor force statistics.
Unemployment rate went up by 3.1 percentage points to 20.7 percent, while the labour force surged 12.4 percent.
The SB expressed its hope that the report will contribute to policy formulation, targeted programing and interventions, as well as monitoring of the labour market stakeholders and government.
