WARSAW, Jan. 27 (Xinhua) -- Tens of survivors of the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp, accompanied by Polish President Andrzej Duda, marched through the gate of the complex on Monday morning, kicking off a series of events marking the 75th anniversary of the liberation of the camp.

Duda laid flowers in front of the Death Wall in Block 11. Here, several thousand people were executed.

The main ceremony marking the anniversary is scheduled to take place on Monday afternoon at the main gate of the complex. Over 200 survivors are set to participate, as well as 27 heads of state and many other representatives of countries from around the world.

The Germans established the Auschwitz camp in 1940. Auschwitz II-Birkenau was established two years later. It is estimated that more than 1 million people died there.

The camp was liberated on Jan. 27, 1945.
