BERLIN, Jan. 31 (Xinhua) -- Eintracht Frankfurt have reinforced their midfield with the signing of veteran Stefan Ilsanker from league rivals Leipzig, both Bundesliga outfits confirmed on Friday.

The defensive midfielder will help the "Eagles" with immediate effect after putting pen to paper on a deal until June 2022.

"With Stefan Ilsanker we have been able to sign an experienced Bundesliga player. Above all, he is a player who can help the team immediately and increase our flexibility," Eintracht's sporting director Fredi Bobic said.

The 30-year-old former Austria international played five years for Leipzig and helped the club to march from the lower leagues into Germany's top flight. He made overall 105 appearances and provided one goal.

"The past few days and weeks have really not been that easy. I really wanted to join Frankfurt. I want to play football again and, above all, have fun. So I am happy that it worked out before the end of the transfer window," the new arrival told the club's official homepage.

Eintracht Frankfurt will encounter last placed Fotuna Dusseldorf at the 20th round in Bundesliga on Saturday.
