NAKURU, Kenya, Feb. 12 (Xinhua) -- Raphael Tuju, secretary general of Kenya's ruling Jubilee party, was injured in a road accident on the Nairobi-Nakuru highway in Kenya early Wednesday, local police said.

The accident happened at about 6:45 a.m. local time (0345 GMT) when a minibus, which swerved to avoid hitting a car that abruptly stopped ahead of it, collided head-on with Tuju's car, said Patrick Lumumba, central regional police commander.

"The driver says he was avoiding to hit another car when he collided with the other car carrying the CS (cabinet secretary)," said Lumumba. "Those injured are in hospital."

The secretary general was on his way to attend former Kenyan President Daniel arap Moi's funeral, and after the accident, he was airlifted to the capital city of Nairobi.

Government Spokesman Cyrus Oguna said the cause of the accident is under investigation.
