TOKYO, Feb. 14 (Xinhua) -- The International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Thomas Bach will visit Hiroshima when the Olympic torch relay is held in the Japanese city, John Coates, head of the IOC's coordination commission, said here on Friday.
Coates told a press conference after a two-day meeting with local organizers, "I can announce that on 18 May, Bach will join the flame journey in the city of Hiroshima.
"He will offer wreath to the tower for the victims of the atomic bombs and visit the peace memorial museum. In the evening there will be a ceremony for the arrival of the torch. He is very much looking forward to the opportunity."
Tokyo 2020 President Yoshiro Mori said, "Local people will welcome him wholeheartedly. We will provide full support for the realization of his visit."
