VILNIUS, Feb. 17 (Xinhua) -- Seeking global economic partners is one of Lithuania's top foreign policy priorities, President Gitanas Nauseda said on Monday.

Nauseda outlined the Baltic country's main foreign policy guidelines at the annual meeting with diplomatic representatives from 69 countries.

Lithuania's foreign policy "will pay great attention to economic diplomacy and will seek to open new directions, especially in the area of economic cooperation," the president was quoted as saying by local media.

"I am glad that Lithuanian businesses are already discovering Asian, African and Middle Eastern markets," he added.

Developing soft power and strengthening the positive image of the country around the world was another immediate task, Nauseda said.

According to the president, Lithuania has already reached a breakthrough in the area of security. In line with its commitment to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), Lithuania allocates 2 percent of its GDP for defense and intends to raise it to 2.5 percent. Enditem
