MUSCAT, Feb. 17 (Xinhua) -- The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Statistical Forum was kicked off on Monday in the Omani capital of Muscat, serving as a platform to boost information technology of the GCC countries.
The two-day forum, themed "Smart Data," is hosted by the Omani National Center for Statistics and Information in cooperation with the GCC Statistical Center.
Statistical and informational agencies from the GCC countries, international and regional organizations, and a number of private sector institutions took part in the forum.
The forum discussed topics including big data, artificial intelligence, electronic payment, among others.
Technology has opened wide horizons for the statistical centers and agencies to develop the statistical work, said Khalifa bin Abdullah Al-Barwani, CEO of the Omani National Center for Statistics and Information.
On the sideline of the forum, an exhibition was held to display pioneering products and technology of statistical institutions and companies of the GCC countries.
