YANGON, Feb. 18 (Xinhua) -- A gas reservoir in an offshore block situated in western part of Myanmar was discovered yielding about 1.14 million cubic meters of natural gas per day after drill stem testing, said a release from the Ministry of Electricity and Energy Myanmar on Tuesday.
After initial exploratory drilling procedures since November last year, the drilling reached the target depth of 2,598 meters and the drill stem test was successfully carried out in a 12-meter thick sand bar at the gas reservoir named Mahar (1) in Myanmar's offshore block A-3.
Two more gas reservoirs -- Kit Sapa Nadi (1) and Yan Aung Myin (1) are to be discovered in the offshore block A-3 and of them, exploratory drilling for Yan Aung Myin (1) will be carried out this month, the release said.
Myanmar's offshore block A-3 is jointly being operated by Myanmar Oil and Natural Gas Enterprise and two companies from South Korea and India.
Natural gas represents one of the major export items of Myanmar, and the country's oil and gas sector attracted 27 percent of foreign investment, with a capital of over 22.4 billion U.S. dollars from the fiscal year 1988-89 to Dec. 31 between 2019-20, said the figures from the Directorate of Investment and Company Administration (DICA).
