TAIPEI, Feb. 21 (Xinhua) -- Two relatives of the 24th COVID-19 patient in Taiwan were confirmed to be infected Friday, raising the total number of COVID-19 cases to 26, according to the island's epidemic monitoring agency.

The two new cases are the granddaughter and the daughter of the woman who was confirmed to be infected with the COVID-19 virus on Wednesday, the agency said in a press release.

The granddaughter, 20, had a cough on Jan. 28 and consulted a doctor due to a fever on Jan. 31, while the daughter, in her 40s, has not shown any symptoms of fever or respiratory infection. Neither of them had traveled outside Taiwan, the agency said.

The authorities are still investigating the source of this familial cluster of infection since the 24th case, the elderly woman in her 60s, had not traveled outside Taiwan in the past two years.

Among the 391 people having close contacts with the three persons, 143 have so far been cleared while the rest are still under examination.

As of Thursday, the island had 71 suspected cases under quarantine.
