TRIPOLI, Feb. 23 (Xinhua) -- Spokesman of Libya's eastern-based army, Ahmad al-Mismari, on Sunday said that Turkish weapons and military equipment have been delivered to the city of Misurata, some 200 km east of the capital Tripoli.
"Reconnaissance and intelligence units confirm arrival of weapons and military equipment from Turkey to the Misurata seaport to support terrorist organizations and armed groups in the western region," the spokesman said in a statement.
"This support is made publicly before the international community. It is a breach of the declared truce in the region," the statement said.
Al-Mismari on Wednesday said that the eastern-based army had destroyed a Turkish ship at the Tripoli seaport, which was carrying weapons and artillery.
However, the UN-backed government said that the attack killed and injured a number of civilians, and also destroyed a number of containers loaded with foodstuff and medical supplies.
The eastern-based army has been leading a military campaign since April 2019 in and around the capital Tripoli, attempting to take over the city and topple the UN-backed government.
