Vietnam sees bird flu outbreaks in 9 localities

HANOI, Feb. 25 (Xinhua) -- The A/H5N6 bird flu has been detected in Vietnam's northern city of Hai Phong, which is the ninth locality in the country infected with the bird flu, Vietnam News Agency cited the city's Department of Livestock and Animal Health as reporting on Tuesday.

On Feb. 23, the duck stock of a household in the city's Kim Son village started to show symptoms with some dead. The test was confirmed positive for H5N6 bird flu virus a day later, the news agency reported.

The local authority then had a total of 3,700 ducks culled and the whole village disinfected.

As many as nine localities in Vietnam have had A/H5N6 and A/H5N1 outbreaks as of Tuesday, including northern cities and provinces of Hanoi, Bac Ninh, Thai Binh, Ninh Binh, Hai Phong, central Thanh Hoa and Nghe An provinces, and southern Tra Vinh and Binh Duong provinces.

In 2019, the bird flu outbreak was detected in 41 districts of 24 provinces and cities nationwide with a total of more than 133,000 culled, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.
