JUBA, Feb. 26 (Xinhua) -- The International Organization for Migration (IOM) has appealed for about 119.3 million U.S. dollars to meet the needs of South Sudan's internally displaced persons (IDPs), returnees, host community members and migrants in the conflict-torn country.
IOM South Sudan Chief of Mission, Jean-Philippe Chauzy said in a statement on Tuesday evening that the funds would be used to complement humanitarian interventions and also help with transition and recovery of displaced persons.
"We call on the donor community to continue providing support to the people of South Sudan as they rebuild their lives towards a durable peace as promised by the Revitalized Peace Agreement," Chauzy said.
Aid agencies estimate that nearly 7.5 million South Sudanese are in dire need of humanitarian assistance following six years of civil war.
Some 1.5 million people remain displaced internally and another 2.2 million as refugees in neighboring countries.
