TIRANA, Feb. 26 (Xinhua) -- Albanian State Police launched a massive nationwide operation to prevent the cultivation of narcotics in the country, a press release of the police authorities said here on Wednesday.
The press release said the operation follows the assignments given by Director General of the State Police Ardi Veliu on Tuesday during a meeting with police directors.
Police officers are conducting searches in greenhouses, tunnels, former military bases, forested areas, abandoned dwellings and warehouses suspected of being used for narcotic plant cultivation.
A total of 2,225 police officers from Local Police Directorates and Border Police are engaged in the operation that started in the early hours of Wednesday morning,
During the operation, Criminal Police across the country will gather information on persons with criminal tendency in the field of narcotics cultivation and trafficking.
