LODWAR, Kenya, Feb. 28 (Xinhua) -- A light aircraft made an emergency landing a few minutes after take-off at an airport in northwest Kenya on Friday, the police and the airline said.

Turkana County Police Commander Samuel Ndanyi said the aircraft belonging to Fly540 was headed to Wilson Airport in Nairobi from the Kapese Airstrip in Turkana South Sub County when the incident happened.

"We have confirmed that all the crew members and passengers safe from any injuries after the incident," Ndanyi said. The plane had 49 passengers and five crew members.

"At 9:54 am, Fly540's DASH8 300 had a suspected foreign object strike which led to an engine failure. The captain then declared an emergency landing," the airline said in a statement.

The airline also confirmed that there were no injuries reported. Fly540, however, said the incident would cause delays in scheduled services over the next few days.

The latest incident came after the airline cancelled all flights to the coastal Lamu county until further notice following an attack by terrorists.
