GENEVA, Feb. 28 (Xinhua) -- The first round of Libyan political talks closed here Friday with only part of the delegates participating in the three-day discussion, a UN source said.

Ghassan Salame, special representative of the UN secretary-general and head of the UN Support Mission in Libya, told a press briefing here that they had three days of "fruitful discussion", and the UN will call for a next round of talks after convincing those who did not show up this time.

The first round of Libyan political talks was scheduled on Feb. 26 at the United Nations' Palais des Nations in Geneva. According to the UN envoy, the UN was surprised at the day the meeting was supposed to start that some people had to leave because they were asked to.

"However, those who stayed decided that the occasion was too rare and precious and therefore that the political track should start with those who stayed in Geneva," Salame said.
