Austria's Kraft wins ski jumping World Cup in Lahti

HELSINKI, Feb. 28 (Xinhua) -- Austria's Stefan Kraft won the first of three FIS Ski Jumping World Cup events this weekend in Lahti, Finland on Friday to extend his lead in the overall standings.

The 26-year-old landed two jumps of 129.5 meters for 284.1 points to claim his 21st career World Cup win and his fifth of this season, beating Karl Geiger of Germany by five points. Norway's Daniel Andre Tande came third with 273.3 points.

"It was a perfect day, I already had a wonderful start with the first training jump. I really like this place and this hill," said the winner.

With 24 of 29 events competed, Kraft is one step closer to his second overall World Cup title, with 1,533 points and a 138-point lead over second-placed Geiger on 1,395 points. Poland's Dawid Kubacki is third with 1,107 points.
