ISTANBUL, March 10 (Xinhua) -- Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said there will be a summit between the leaders of Turkey, Germany, and France in Istanbul on March 17 on the latest refugee situation.

"We will hold this meeting on Tuesday next week, and we will meet in Istanbul," Erdogan told reporters on the plane on his way back to the capital Ankara from Brussels, Belgium, said the NTV broadcaster on Tuesday.

Erdogan said British Prime Minister Boris Johnson could also attend the summit along with German Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President Emmanuel Macron.

The leaders are expected to discuss the latest refugee situation on the border of Turkey and Greece, which erupted after Turkey said it would no longer stop them from going to Europe.

Following the announcement, thousands of refugees have flocked Turkey's northwestern border province Edirne to cross the border to Greece.

Referring to the harsh intervention of Greek security forces against the illegal migrants, Erdogan said the Greek authorities should know that the attitude they exerted on the borderline is a "murder."

"They killed four to five refugees at the border. We will ask for their account. We will not leave it there," Erdogan was quoted by NTV as saying.
