JAKARTA, March 11 (Xinhua) -- The Indonesian capital city of Jakarta has decided to delay the Formula-E race scheduled to be held in June of this year, local media reported on Wednesday, citing a letter from the governor of the city.

The race was initially scheduled to be staged in Jakarta on June 6 and would be the 10th round of the championship.

"The Formula-E race which had been previously planned to be held in June will be delayed," the media cited the letter that Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan wrote to the local organizing committee.

Formula-E officials will announce the cancellation to the public shortly, said Anies.

For the rescheduling of international sports event, it will be discussed later, Anies said without giving further details.

"However, it has been clear that it will not be held in June and we will monitor the global situation as race will be attended by foreign tourists. We will not sacrifice the safety of citizens for achieving a big economic goal. It has risks, so that is why we are delaying it," said Anies.

Indonesia on Wednesday reported the first death from COVID-19 from the 27 cases, but two out of the total have been tested negative, according to the government's spokesperson for novel coronavirus-related matters Achmad Yurianto.

The government has boosted efforts to tackle the virus by increasing the number of referral hospitals for handling patients infected with the COVID-19 virus, and is constructing a new one, specially for only treating patients infected by the virus on an Island situated in Riau province.
