MANAMA, March 13 (Xinhua) -- The upcoming 2020 Formula 1 Bahrain Grand Prix has been postponed along with the Vietnam Grand Prix amid COVID-19 fears, the Formula One announced Friday.

"The global situation regarding COVID-19 is fluid and very difficult to predict and it's right we take time to assess the situation and make the right decisions," said Formula One Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Chase Carey in a statement.

The race was scheduled to be held from March 20 to 22 at the Bahrain International Circuit in Sakhir, with officials saying last week that it would not be open to spectators as a precautionary measure.

According to Bahrain's Ministry of Health, as of Friday, the total number of registered COVID-19 cases in the country increased to 210.

A total of 44 patients infected with the virus have been cured, the ministry added.
