CAIRO, March 16 (Xinhua) -- Six terrorists were killed in a shootout with police forces in Egypt's North Sinai Province, state-run Ahram Online news website reported on Monday.

Egyptian Interior Ministry said that the terrorists were killed during a raid in Bir El-Abd city in North Sinai.

Police forces carried out the raid after Egypt's national security agency received information which revealed that a terrorist group was using an under-construction building as a hideout in Abu Shalla road in Bir Al-Abd.

The terrorists exchanged fire with security forces, resulting in the death of six terrorists.

Police found a number of automatic weapons and explosive devices in their possession. No casualties were reported among police forces.

Terrorism has prevailed in Egypt since the military ousted former president Mohamed Morsi in early July 2013 in response to mass protests against his 12-month rule and his currently outlawed Muslim Brotherhood group. Enditem
